Stay in a unique boutique hotel in Salento

Castello di Ugento is a luxury boutique hotel in Puglia – a contemporary hideaway encased within the golden 17th-century walls. The nine rooms and suites have all been lovingly curated with modern pieces from top Italian designers including Cassina, Poltrona Frau, Minotti and B&B Italia alongside vintage finds from local antiques emporiums and handmade Italian ‘noce Canaletto’  – high quality walnut – furniture.

Ground-floor rooms, which open onto the cobbled courtyard close to the 18th-century aromatic garden, are cloistered within a renovated wing of the castle, while others boast 19th-century star-vaulted ceilings and access to a small patio.

The suites on the first floor have a private terrace and romantic views across Ugento’s rooftops.

Tailor-made luxury is our speciality, from private tours dipping into Salento’s secret corners to a chilled Tramonto Aperitivo in the fragrant walled garden as the sun sets on the golden stonework and relaxing spa treatments in the privacy of your suite with bespoke organic products created for the hotel by a local perfumier.

A sleek, modern hotel, Castello di Ugento is also a gourmet retreat and home to the Puglia Culinary Centre, a state-of-the-art Italian cookery school. Bespoke classes can be booked on Italian cuisine and wine-tastings and pairings organised in the original underground cistern built more than a thousand years ago.

The restaurant, Il Tempo Nuovo with its dramatic vaulted ceilings, is the setting for mouthwatering seasonal specialities created by House Chef Odette Fada and showcasing ingredients from the Salento region. Dishes feature fresh fruit and vegetables from the 18th-century restored walled kitchen gardenwhere guests can enjoy sunset cocktails, relax with a book during the day or to take a botanical lesson with the Head Gardener to learn about the 100 aromatic and medicinal local plants blossoming here.

The hotel has a full concierge service organizing bespoke activities to explore Salento. The region is overflowing with cultural riches – discover the Baroque brilliance of Lecce and 12th-century mosaics in Otranto – and breathtaking natural beauty. The landscape is blanketed with olive groves and there are two coastlines to explore, from the white sand beaches and crystal-clear waters of the Ionian Sea, to the cliffs of the dramatic Adriatic coastline.
